As a big fan of the E46 longroof, I really want to like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I’ve said to my wife (to much eye rolling) that if we won the lottery, one thing I’d do is put an M3 drivetrain into my wagon. She doesn’t believe me, and I think she’d be surprised.

When it comes to stuffing an S54 into a wagon, it’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - and better ( though rarely with an awd variant).

T he E46 platform is aging well; prices for regular models are quite low (Team O’Neil is starting to thrash them); the M3's values have bottomed and are now on the rise. So that should make this worth a fair bit of money. But as is the case with someone else’s project , you have to think, “could I build one for that much?”

Eh, I’m not sure. If I had a garage and lots of time on my hands, definitely. But I don’t have either, and most people don’t have both the space and the time. I think I could get the donor cars for under $10k, leaving a huge margin for just handing the work over to a shop, and what if I didn’t modify the body? Just look at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :

With the minimal exterior changes, I bet that could be done for under $25k. And it wouldn’t have the curse of being someone else’s project.

I am impressed that the NPOCP example seems to have retained the awd system by using a 330xi oil pan up front, and beefier X3 diffs. Neat! But that’s part of why it’s going to be interesting maintaining the frankenbimmer going forward. And I’m pretty sure that combining parts from three different high-maintenance vehicles is NOT a recipe for trouble-free motoring.

I don’t hate it, but I wouldn’t spend $26,500 on it. I’m not sure I’d spend more than half that, and that’s the sad truth about selling your project.

on the nporcp post.... tbh... it being someone elses project is a big no no.... and..for me those fender flares do it no favours.. (i love a good widebody... buuuut... not that one)

it sure as fuck aint worth 26 large

I agree, it’s not worth anything close to 26k... to someone else.

I don’t mind working on my E46, but I don’t have a ton to compare it to. It’s harder than working on my truck, but then there’s a million youtube videos to guide me on the bimmer.

Skip the F31 and just spend the money getting a nice E91. You can find a nice RWD+6MT one...

That’s probably where I’d go next. 2011 or 2012 was it for manuals, so that would be the goal.

I've really been enjoying my E92, even after all these years.. this guy local to me actually just bought an E91, fit M3 bumpers/fenders, and painted in technoviolet. I now want to buy an E91, do that, and swap my n54 into it.

Being the owner of a new-to-me E46 I’m glad to see some E46 owners on oppo. Should we start a support group of sorts?

Any experience putting in new shocks on your car? Mine is still on the originals...they work just fine but look mighty rusty.
